United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women of St. Matthew’s UMC was founded in 1957. Membership is opened to all interested women. Church membership is not essential to participate and there are no membership dues. “The Organized Unit Of The United Methodist Women Shall Be A Community Of Women Whose Purpose Is To Know God And To Experience Freedom As Whole Persons Through Jesus Christ:  To Develop A Creative, Supportive Fellowship; And To Expand The Concept Of Mission Through Participation In Global Ministries Of The Church.”

As United Methodist Women we have many outreach programs such as: Vacation Bible School for the Methodist Home for Children, furnishing Tulane Wesley Center Dinners for College Students, distribution of Thanksgiving Baskets and helping needy families at Christmas.  We also sponsor a backpack and shoe program, sock distribution to schools and a food pantry.

St. Matthew’s UMW has four circles (groups).   Mary Ruth Circle meets the first Tuesday of the month for 9:30 AM at the church, Elizabeth Circle meets the first Thursday of the month for 7:00 PM circle members decide each month whether to meet at church or at member’s home, Rebekah Circle meets the second Tuesday of the month for 10:00 AM at church, Rachel Circle meets the second Tuesday of the month for 7:00 PM at circle member’s home.

Feel free to join one of the circles that meets your schedule.  Membership in the United Methodist Church is not a requirement.

UMW Sponsors Letters to Servicemen and Women
All members are encouraged to send Christmas cards or general cards to the servicemen and women on our prayer list that are in the U.S. military and serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.  You can find the most up to date addresses in the Prayers for our Military Binder in the narthex.  Lets all join together to let these brave and loyal people know that we care about them and support them.
