We welcome the new pastor Reverend Tim Barnes.  Tim Barnes Bio is below.
A Letter From Reverend Cheri Godwin:

To My St. Matthew’s Church Family,

May the grace and peace of our Risen Savior be with you.

When I was a youngster in the Girl Scouts I learn a song that said, “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other’s gold.”

I have made lots of friends over the years and I count each of them as friends, but even more than that, I count you as family, for we are sisters and brothers in the Lord.

I have told you before that we, as pastors, are appointed one year at a time. We serve at the pleasure of the Bishop and Cabinet. So, it is with emotions running all over the place,

that I announce that my time as your pastor is coming to an end. I have received a new appointment to serve here in the New Orleans District.

You will receive a new pastor to lead you on the next leg of your journey as you continue in mission and ministry.

I ask and know that you will welcome him/her with open hearts and arms as our churches continue to work and pray through this time of uncertainty in the denomination.

I leave believing that some good works have been accomplished, some minds have been opened to see there is more than one way to do ministry and mission,

and that technology can be our friend. Embrace the future, knowing that God is still in control and He will never lead you astray.

We, as the church will continue to continue to move forward in our mission to “make disciples of Jesus Christ” faithfully over the next few months.

King, Damion, and I give God thanks for each of you here at St. Matthew’s UMC. We have had the opportunity to laugh and cry together as we all grew closer to our Father.

We have worked together and I pray that we learned to see through the ‘eyes of God’ all those God sets before us to love and serve as we share the Good News with them.

We thank you for the kindness you have shown us.

Put your trust in the One who created everything. God is still in control.

 Reverend Cheri Godwin
